Overview
The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Fellowship is a one-year fellowship that provides learners with clinical, research, and educational experiences uniquely available at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic. Through operational experience in diverse environments ranging from urban to rural, the EMS Fellowship is designed not simply to train EMS physicians but to develop future EMS leaders.
As a member of the Division of Prehospital Care, the EMS fellow has the opportunity to interact with and train medical providers at all levels of care, from law enforcement first responders to emergency medicine residents.
Fellows gain specialized experience in urban search and rescue, hazardous materials response, mass gathering and event medicine, and disaster preparedness. Tactical Emergency Medical Support opportunities are also available.

Director's welcome
Our program provides foundational training in the clinical practice of prehospital emergency medicine, as well as strong experiences in EMS systems design, medical oversight, administration, and training.
Rochester, Minnesota, serves as the hub for southeastern Minnesota specialist EMS response assets, including state-designated teams. Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service provides Advanced Life Support response to Rochester and surrounding municipalities, responding to more than 70,000 calls for service each year.
Fellows spend January or February at Mayo Clinic’s campus in Scottsdale, Arizona, where they gain exposure to geographically distinct EMS systems, and receive additional experience in operational and mass-gathering and event medicine at the PGA Tour Waste Management Phoenix Open.
Upon completion of the EMS Fellowship, candidates are highly qualified and uniquely capable of becoming EMS medical directors, EMS educators, retrievalists, and prehospital emergency medicine physicians.
Accreditation
The EMS Fellowship is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
