Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship

Rutgers Health/Newark Beth Israel Medical Center Program

The two-year Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship Program at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is a Cardiac track program, sponsored by Rutgers Biomedical Health. The program has been in effect since 2016 and attained continued accreditation by the ACGME in 2019. Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is affiliated with the Rutgers University and Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, Newark, NJ.

Our Fellowship Program provides experience in in all facets of cardiac surgical illnesses with exposure to a wide spectrum of required interventions for a variety of cardiac surgical illnesses including: Coronary artery bypass surgery, off-pump coronary artery bypass, surgical ablation of atrial fibrillation, and congenital cardiac surgery. We have a busy structural heart intervention program performing the entire spectrum of procedures such as TAVR, VIV -TAVR, Mitraclip, Watchman, Angiovac etc.

We offer comprehensive treatment for heart failure and end stage lung disease including heart and lung transplantation, mechanical circulatory assistance, and ECMO service.

Although it is a Cardiac track program, residents gain significant exposure to general thoracic surgical cases due to robust thoracic surgical volume at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBIMC) and Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (CBMC) .

At the successful completion of the fellowship program, residents will have a broad experience and will be proficient in all aspects of cardiothoracic surgery.
