The Consultation-Liaison fellowship at Icahn School of Medicine, Mount Sinai Hospital educates graduates of psychiatric residencies to evaluate, diagnose, and manage all aspects of psychiatric care in the medically ill. Through an unrivaled experience in a quaternary care academic medical center, fellows train to respond to an array of questions relating to integrated delivery of healthcare, developing clinical expertise in inpatient and outpatient medical, surgical and obstetric settings while acquiring administrative and teaching skills and developing a portfolio of mentored scholarship as they embark upon their professional careers.
The Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship Training Program in the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Department of Psychiatry exists in the context of a diverse urban setting in one of the country’s top academic medical schools and health systems.
As such, its mission is the following:
- To train leaders in the field of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry in education, scholarship, and clinical expertise, including in clinical subspecialty areas.
- To provide fellows with the skills needed for independent practice in CL Psychiatry
- To foster the development of psychiatrists who practice critical thinking and an evidence-based approach in all aspects of their work while simultaneously providing compassionate and exceptional patient care.
- To maintain scientific excellence and clinical relevance in the didactic program and in clinical training experiences of fellows.
- To promote professional development, mentoring, and well-being of fellows and the faculty who teach them.
- To embrace the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion as key drivers for excellence and innovation in healthcare service delivery, education, and the recruitment and retention of trainees, faculty, and staff for our program.
- To foster a culture that prioritizes patient safety by teaching communication, liaison, and effective conflict resolution skills, optimizing feedback delivery and making space for team reflection.
How to Apply
We, along with many other CLP fellowship programs, will be accepting applications through ERAS for the first time this cycle. You can get more information about the ERAS registration process here.
Alternatively, we will also continue to accept either the Mount Sinai application or the ACLP Common Application.

- Your curriculum vitae
- Copy of current medical license
- Three letters of support (one of which must be from the current training director in general psychiatry)
- Medical school transcript and dean’s letter/MSPE
- Test scores (USMLE, COMLEX)
- ECFMG certification (if applicable)
- Personal statement describing your reason for pursuing a career in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, your experiences with consultation-liaison psychiatry, and your career goals
