Plastic Surgery Residency
Introduction
Under the direction of Program Director Dr. Erik Marques the Plastic Surgery Residency Training Program currently consists of thirty-six months of comprehensive training in all aspects and areas of plastic and reconstructive surgery. Areas of specialty include maxillofacial, aesthetic, microvascular, hand, pediatric plastic surgery (cleft lip and palate/ craniofacial) and general reconstructive plastic surgery. Also included in the rotation schedule is exposure to Anesthesia (office-based / ambulatory setting), Orthopedics (Hand / Upper Extremity), and Oculoplastic Surgery.
The program currently has eight (8) full-time core faculty members who participate regularly in the teaching program at Memorial Hermann Hospital and / or Lyndon Baines Johnson General Hospital (LBJ). Volunteer plastic surgery faculty also participate in the teaching program at Memorial Hermann Hospital. Attending faculty and the Program Director supervise all activities. The primary teaching hospital is Memorial Hermann Hospital (and Children’s Memorial Hermann), where residents are assigned to the various faculty on a rotating basis, allowing for exposure to a wide variety and number of clinical experiences.
Mission
The mission of the University of Texas Program in Plastic Surgery is to educate and train physicians in the art and science of plastic and reconstructive surgery and to develop a responsible plastic surgeon with a high moral and ethical character capable of functioning as an independent plastic surgeon.
