Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency
Welcome Message
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology holds education to be an integral part of our professional commitment as full time faculty. We strive to train our residents to become competent, compassionate and academically driven colleagues with experience in caring for our diverse patient population throughout their lifespan.
Our ACGME accredited residency training program provides a four-year experience involving a variety of educational opportunities in the subspecialties of women's health. Residents receive direct supervision in the clinics and operating rooms and are provided formal and informal mentors who guide them to become leaders in our field, as well as their career interests, whether it be fellowship training, academic practice or private practice. Research and academic excellence (CREST and RELATE) are two major focus tracks of our training program, which facilitates our residents becoming consumers of lifelong learning.

Mission Statement:
Our residency program in obstetrics and gynecology at Loyola University Medical Center endeavors to create a culturally diverse and inclusive program that fosters individual professional development, advances surgical proficiency, promotes excellence in patient care and cultivates the life-long pursuit of medical knowledge. As emphasized by the Jesuit tradition, we endeavor to build a culturally rich academic environment welcoming of all ethnicities, genders and underrepresented minorities, recognizing that this cross-cultural environment will facilitate an ideal healthcare system that is equitable and inclusive of our community, all populations, backgrounds and experiences.
Program Aims:
- Train residents to be excellent physicians in obstetrics and gynecology, allowing them to serve the community and primary care fields as a specialist and consultant in women's health.
- Produce strong gynecologic surgeons, showing expertise in the full scope of the surgical aspects of our specialty.
- Produce skilled consumers of research, which will arm graduates with the ability to review the evidence with a discerning eye, helping them to navigate the ever-changing landscape of medical science.
- Allow the space for residents to explore and develop skill in individual areas of focus: global and community health, research, academic medicine, and teaching.
Message From the Chair
The mission statement accurately reflects the philosophy that we at Loyola Medicine have toward the education of our young physicians in the discipline of obstetrics and gynecology. The program is structured to create an academic environment that will allow the resident to grow through a four year interval from a senior medical student to a proficient practitioner of the discipline of obstetrics and gynecology. Our program is tiered and structured throughout the four year curriculum to increase resident experience, knowledge and responsibility as the resident grows from intern to chief resident.
Our faculty are nationally and internationally renowned in all the disciplines of obstetrics and gynecology with strong female pelvic medicine & reconstructive surgery, maternal fetal medicine and gynecologic oncology subdivisions. Our patient base is varied and mixed. Residents have the opportunity to participate 100% in all levels of care of both private and institutionally funded patients. The environment of our resident staff and faculty is one of collegiality in which personal and professional growth and development can occur.
I am very proud of the environment we have created for education, patient care, and research within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Our graduates have broad and varied experience. Many have pursued subspecialty training programs in all the subspecialty disciplines. An equal number have pursued private practice opportunities, not only in the Chicago area, but nationally. Our graduates have been very competitive and have been able to place in prestigious fellowship programs, so that your goals and desires upon completion of residency, be they advancement in academic medicine and subspecialty fellowship training, or private practice in varied locations throughout the country, can be met by pursuing your training in our institution.
I have the firm belief that our environment fosters personal and professional development and that our graduates are outstanding additions to the community of obstetricians and gynecologists. Dear Resident Applicant,
The selection of a training program will be one of the most profound and complex decisions that you will face in your personal and professional life. As you go through the interview process, you will find that all of the programs meet nationally recognized standards, but offer very different styles of education.
The training program you choose will not only affect your education, but will be the place where you meet life-long friends and colleagues. Our program offers exposure to the broad range of every aspect of women's heath. Our residency draws strength from quality patient care activities. This creates an environment which allows all of our physicians to realize their individual potential.
We train the providers of women's health services in competent and compassionate care. Our graduates are excellent clinicians and skilled surgeons who advocate for women at every stage of their lives. It is our tradition to guide leaders in women's health to fellowships, academic general OBGYN practices, and general OBGYN private practices all across the country.
