The Department of Medicine at Georgetown University is steeped in a rich tradition of excellence built upon the legacies of leaders in cardiology, hematology and oncology, and gastroenterology. We are proud of this tradition of excellence, and it is our goal today to further that reputation by remaining on the cutting edge of new developments in medical education, scientific and clinical investigation, and clinical care. Central to our success is our commitment to scholarship at all levels of medical training.
The Department of Medicine’s strategic plan focuses our resources and developmental efforts on three missions: teaching, clinical service and biomedical research. As with most successful academic departments of medicine, the strength of the department arises from its outstanding faculty of physicians and scientists.

Cardiology
The Division of Cardiology is a leader in cardiovascular patient care, training and research.
Dermatology
The Division of Dermatology is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of a broad spectrum of skin disorders, as well as to advancing the field of dermatology through participation in clinical research and training future physicians.
Endocrinology and Metabolism
The Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of endocrine diseases, conducts basic and clinical research on hormone-related diseases, and trains future endocrinologists.
Gastroenterology
With nationally and internationally known experts in endoscopy and gastroenterology, the Division of Gastroenterology offers the most advanced diagnostic and treatment techniques available.
General Internal Medicine
The Division of General Internal Medicine has a long tradition of exceptional patient care, education and research.
Hematology and Oncology
The Division of Hematology and Oncology is dedicated to the medical treatment and care of adults with cancer.
Hospital Medicine
The Division of Hospital Medicine is committed to providing excellent patient care through the practice of compassionate and evidence-based medicine.
Infectious Diseases and Travel Medicine
The Division of Infectious Diseases and Travel Medicine’s mission is to achieve excellence and distinction in teaching, research and the provision of patient care.
Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine
The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine is dedicated to providing excellent care for patients with critical illness, lung diseases and sleep-related disorders.
Nephrology and Hypertension
The Division of Nephrology and Hypertension includes a strong nephrology training program founded more than 50 years ago, as well as a strong clinical and research training program for faculty and fellows.
Rheumatology
The Division of Rheumatology has a long tradition of exceptional patient care, education and research. We provide comprehensive subspecialty services for patients with a broad range of rheumatic disease.
