Electrophysiology Cardiology Fellowship

Program Overview

Loyola Medicine offers an ACGME accredited electrophysiology program which is designed to provide the training and experience needed for a career in Electrophysiology. Three years of fellowship training in general Cardiology is a prerequisite for the program.

As one of the leading centers in ablation techniques of ventricular arrhythmias and atrial fibrillation, Loyola offers the ability to gain experience in advanced techniques of complex arrhythmia management. Also, fellows will receive extensive training in device implantation and management.

Two-year Clinical Training Program

The Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship Program is a 24 month training program. Trainees gain knowledge and experience through a variety of patient care settings under the direct supervision of full-time attending electrophysiology physicians.

Rotations and training occurs in the electrophysiology laboratory, device implant procedure laboratory, outpatient arrhythmia clinic, electrophysiology inpatient consult service, and the device follow up clinic.

Research Training

All trainees are expected to complete a research project, either in the clinical facilities or in one of the research laboratories.

Educational Programs/Conference Seminars

Trainees are encouraged to attend at least one national meeting each year (HRS, ACC, or AHA). There are regular conferences that the trainees attend for didactic learning: Weekly Electrophysiology lectures, intracardiac electrogam conferences, Journal Club, industry technology meetings, and State of the Heart (Cardiology Grand Rounds).

Application Process

Application is via ERAS. After the application and all accompanying documents (current CV, three letters of recommendation including one from the current Program Director, USMLE scores, and Personal Statement) are received, the Program Director will review the application.
