The Allergy and Immunology fellowship program at Penn aims to train fellows armed with various talents and contributions (including one or more of the careers below).

Our goal is to:

  • Produce faculty who will be leaders in academic medicine - as academic clinicians, clinician educators or physician scientists
  • Train fellows for a career of clinical, basic science or translational research in field of Allergy and Immunology
  • Train fellows dedicated and well-equipped to lead initiatives in systems and practice improvement – in any setting – including in academic medicine, private practice or industry

  • Produce practitioners who are experts in a broad spectrum of diseases including immunologic disease

The field of allergy and immunology encompasses a broad spectrum of disorders including the common IgE-mediated allergic diseases, unusual hypersensitivity reactions, drug reactions, immunodeficiency, and various disorders of immune dysfunction. Fellows at Penn are exposed to the spectrum of disorders through personal patient contact in both outpatient and inpatient settings, as well as lectures, conferences and other didactic teaching.

Meet the Allergy and Immunology Core Faculty

The Section of Allergy and Immunology at Penn is recognized as a World Allergy Organization (WAO) Center of Excellence

A thorough clinical experience in allergy involves extensive outpatient experience. In this manner, the trainee will develop specialized skills that help insure a consultative role in the competitive environment. We have an active inpatient consultation service, where fellows gain extensive experience with drug reactions angioedema, immune deficiency and other interesting and challenging cases.

Research training involves hands-on experience, instruction in study design, data and statistical analysis and guidance in preparing data for presentation and publication.

The value we place on equity, diversity and wellness are reflected in our areas of research, program leadership and curriculum.
